100 Followers & a New Years Reading Resolutions {Sale}

Whoa--I reached my 100 followers mark yesterday and am a little blown away!  I never thought anyone would read this blog but me and the people I bribed.  Thanks to all.  I'm not doing any sort of special 100 follower giveaway with other bloggers--I think I'll save that for the 200 mark (wishful thinking). However, the first person to comment on this post today will win their choice of any product in my TPT shop :) Speaking of the shop, since many of you in other parts of the country don't go back until tomorrow, I've put my Reading Resolutions writing pack on a 15% off sale today.  If you're anything like I was last Tuesday, you may be in a sheer panic as to what you will be doing tomorrow morning.  Panic no more!
Click on the pic above to check it out. I should also say that it is most appropriate for grades 3+.

As for my personal reading resolutions, so far so good. My students as well. I was thrilled to find them begging to read when we went back to school this week.  Many of them received books or Nooks or whatnot for Christmas, including one boy who received a ginormous manual on CSS and HTML from his college-aged brother.  As soon as I saw it, I immediately saw disaster--a kid sitting for weeks (it is HUGE!) reading an adult's technical manual? It was like this sort of thing, which, btw, has almost 900 pages. Ugh:
I said nothing, because a) I didn't want to launch into a just right books lecture 15 minutes into our first day back, and b) he's a very strong reader and was insanely enthusiastic and c) I thought that maybe, just maybe, he had simply brought this mammoth book in for the first day back to show off, and would leave it at home the next day.  Well, imagine my surprise when he returned the next day with his flash drive, telling me that he had begun to design a website using his new knowledge and wanted to show it to me. What?!  Amazing. It was not yet finished, but it was pretty good, I must say. He was so proud.  Living proof that sometimes we just need to leave it alone and trust them, kwim? Engagement is pretty powerful.

  5. Your story reminds me of one of my students last year. He told me he wanted to write a sequel to the movie Rio and asked if he could use free time in the classroom to do so. Everytime he finished his work, he'd race over to the computer. After a few days, I decided to check on his progress not really expecting to see much at all. Three chapters were already finished with incredible detail and dialogue. I agree, sometimes we just need to step back and trust them. Congrats on reaching 100 followers!
